Where ideas were written down, and where East met a changing world.
Two galleries close our walk through Asia. The first, “Guides to Life,” gathers the great classics of Asian religions — Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic, and more — as manuscripts and printed books. These are the texts by which whole civilisations chose to live.
The second gallery jumps forward in time. As Western ships and ideas reached Asia, craftsmen blended old techniques with new tastes. You see familiar materials — lacquer, metal, glass — shaped in fresh ways. This is the moment of exchange, when East and West began to remake each other.
Together these rooms hold the museum’s big idea: Asia was never closed. Wisdom and goods moved along roads and seas; cultures borrowed and gave back. As a docent, you can leave visitors with that single thought — connection — which is also our school’s promise to the world.
